組織紹介 「日本メンサ」
1960年代に大阪で最初の日本人会員が入会し、日本でのメンサの活動が始まりました。大阪定期会合として現在も続いています。また、東京では1970年にリチャード・フィッシャー氏が、在日外国人メンサ会員に呼びかけて活動を始めました。
1980年には、このふたつのグループが統合して「日本メンサ」が設立されました。リーダースダイジェスト誌に入会テストの案内が掲載され、会員数が増えていきました。会誌の発行や、パーティやイベントなどが行われ、国際役員も日本から選出されました。テレビや雑誌でもメンサの名前を見かけることが多くなり、広くメンサの活動が知られるようになりました。
1990年代に入るとバブルが崩壊し、日本メンサの活動も低調となり、1992年には支部を維持するための最少人数である200人を下回ったために、事務機能をイギリス本部に移管し、日本メンサの窓口は閉鎖されました。
窓口が閉鎖されるとともに、日本のメンサはいくつもの小グループに分かれて活動をするようになりました。そして、対外的な活動を休止し、1992年以降は会員相互の親睦団体としてのみ活動を行っています。日本における広告宣伝や入会申し込みなどは、イギリス本部が直接行っております。
こうした事情から、日本ではメンサは活動していないのではないか？との誤解が一時期ありました。現在も、日本の公式窓口はイギリス本部ですが、ボランティア的に日本の一部の会員が事務手続きを代行しております。
History of "Mensa Japan"
The first Japanese member joined in Osaka in the 1960's, and the activity of the mensa in Japan started.
It is continuing as a Osaka regular meeting now. Moreover, Richard Fisher's calling the foreign resident in Mensa Japan member in Tokyo in 1970 started up activity. These two groups integrated and "Mensa Japan" was established in 1980.
The guide of the admission test is published in the Readers Digest magazine, and the number of members has increased.
The issue, the party, and the event etc. of the meeting magazine were held, and an international director was elected by Japan.
It became an appearance of the name of the mensa, and the activity of the mensa came to be known to the television and the magazine widely.
The bubble collapsed in the 1990's, and the activity of a Japanese mensa became slack. And, it has fallen below 200 that is the minimal number to maintain the branch in 1992. Mensa Japan was closed, and the function of office work was transferred to Mensa International.
